Week of 17th June: The Power Of What? Asking The Right Questions

Questions are the answer.

  • Would you like to be able to tap into your intuition?
  • Want to learn questions that delve deeper?
  • Want richer conversations with others?

We subconsciously and habitually ask ourselves questions all the time. The problem is that most of these questions are the wrong ones.

Questions are powerful tools; they can motivate us, ignite hope and lead to new insights. They can force us out of our traditional way of thinking, enabling us to rediscover what we really want from life and help us achieve our goals.

However, if we ask the wrong questions we can remain stuck on the negatives and obsessing over the past, leaving us feeling hopeless and disempowered.

This workshop will teach you about the two main types of questions and the pros and cons of using them. It will enable you to become conscious of the questions you are asking yourself and others. It will show you how to redefine these questions to focus on the positive, how to manipulate these positive questions to find an answer and how to listen to your intuition.

We live in a society that requires quick, efficient, and decisive answers, but there’s no need to restrict yourself to these. Learn how to ask the questions that will enable you to fully explore your knowledge and feelings so that you can discover how you truly feel about a situation.

So let’s tap in the positive ability of question asking- it’ll change your life.

Creating Space or Conquering Clutter

  • Do you hoard stuff?
  • Is your mind so full you can't think clearly?
  • Do you treat your body as a dustbin?

McMains and Kastner’s study in the Journal of Neuroscience found that clutter prevents our ability to focus and process information, decreasing our productivity whilst heightening our irritability.

We all have areas of our lives that are cluttered; we could have a cluttered inbox, office, wardrobe or even a cluttered mind or body. Clutter not only impacts on our work, but also our relationships, health and emotions, yet, most of us still find ourselves clinging to our clutter.

Our Creating Space workshop will show how to clear space, by giving you an awareness of the causes of clutter in your life and why you cling to it so tightly. We will help you to create a de-cluttering plan and stick to it.

With this new space you will feel liberated and ready to fill it with something fresh and exciting. So conquer your clutter and see your relationships and career flourish.

Remember Me?

The selfless act of self-love

Psychological health is not possible unless the essential core of the person is fundamentally accepted, loved and respected by others and by her or his self. Abraham Maslow, American Psychologist.

In a world that places us under increasing stress to perform at work, socially and at home, many of us are guilty of forgetting that which affects all of the proceeding; the time we spend on ourselves.

Research shows that those who take time to nurture their well being are more engaged in their work and those who have a healthy self-esteem are less prone to aggression and antisocial behaviour. This workshop will give you an awareness of how much you do for others and, in contrast, how little you do for yourself.

Remember Me? is about remembering that you deserve to be nourished, cherished and appreciated too. You’ll discover ways in which you can do this to find a more confident, energised and relaxed person with a greater sense of self-worth ready to give back with kick.

Engage in the selfless act of self-love and feel good about yourself for once whilst benefiting all those around you.

(And, conversely, if you feel that you tend to focus on self and would like to change that, this workshop will inspire you to give and discover happiness with and through others).

Rules of Happiness or On The Hunt For Happiness

When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.
Helen Keller

Professor Andrew Oswald, a leading authority on the relationship between economics and mental health, is one of the many who has produced research that demonstrates that happiness has large and positive casual effects on productivity.

Happiness dominates our performance at work and the success of our relationships, it is ubiquitous and yet sometimes we find it hard to connect to.

By discovering the Rules of Happiness, the characteristics that numerous studies have found to be the ones that happy people share, you will see that happiness is not about what is happening to you, but how you choose to respond to what happens.

We will look at seven main rules of happiness enabling you to focus on what brings you happiness by finding the rules that work best for you. These new perspectives will enhance your ability to connect with the emotion and to let it spread and bring warmth throughout your life.

Come to Life Clubs and capture the most sought after emotion of them all.

Being You or Discovering Who You Are

Happiness is that state of consciousness which proceeds from the achievement of one's values.
Ayn Rand

  • Ever find yourself sabotaging your own life?
  • Dissatisfied with your dream job?
  • Ever wonder why that once you’ve finally got something you’ve been longing for it’s not as good as you envisaged?

Our values affect our everyday decisions, our career and our relationships. This workshop is designed to help you understand what it is to be you and what makes you tick. You’ll find what you really want from life by identifying the values you hold which have been driving your behaviour and emotions since you were born.

Some of you will already be aware of what your values are; but others won’t, because our values build up through our life experiences in a process we are not always aware of and one of the most frequently observed psychological phenomena is that of ‘cognitive dissonance’ - when we hold two conflicting beliefs at once because we’re not properly aware of them.

When your values are conscious and clear to you, making decisions becomes easier and you can easily tell whether something is right for you or not. You’ll feel more comfortable in your own skin and the world you live in.

Whether you want to understand yourself or the events that happen to you better or you’re looking for answers, Being You is the workshop that will provide you with the tools to do so.

Best Life Ever or Creating Your Ideal Life (and recognising what's right under your nose)

Psychologists Govindji and Linley's study of 214 university students demonstrated that people who use their strengths more report higher levels of happiness and fulfillment. Similar studies conducted by Gallup show that people who use their strengths every day are six times more likely to be engaged on the job at hand with teams who focus on strengths everyday being 12.5% more productive.

Each of us has our own individual strengths and talents, so it’s essential not to focus on what has been ‘left out’ of our character, but instead to draw out what’s ‘left in’.

Best Life Ever is about discovering the strengths, talents and themes that you already have and indulging in them to find a happier, more successful and fulfilled you, not only at home but also in the workplace.

This workshop will provide you with the tools that will encourage you to focus on activities, treats and interests that will bring you happiness. You’ll find the themes that run through your life and following these themes will help create your ideal life.

Stop waiting around for your Best Life Ever, define what makes you happy and start living it.

Headlines - The Workshop That’s Changing Lives

Harnessing The Power of Headlines

According to achievement expert, Douglas Vermeeren, approximately 80% of people never set goals even though they believe that goal setting is important to attain a better life.

No doubt, many of us think of setting goals and resolutions, but how many of us actually do it – even though research suggests that individuals can achieve an improvement in work (or home) performance by as much as 20-25% simply by goal setting.

The point is how to set goals that mean something – so that you remember and achieve them. In our Headlines workshop you’ll discover a fresh technique for setting goals, so you can perform them more effectively.

Headlines can be inspirational. They can grab your attention and resonate in your mind all day.  By using the powerful nature of headlines plus your intuition, you’ll create a headline that inspires you.

This workshop will make sure that your most important tasks are at the forefront of your mind, and equip you with determination, self-confidence and motivation.

Come along this week to The Workshop That’s Changing Lives. Why miss out?

Expanding Your Horizons or The Power Of Thinking Positively

Psychologist Hilary Tindle assessed over ninety thousand healthy postmenopausal women and discovered that, when compared to pessimists, optimists had lower age-adjusted rates of chronic heart disease and total mortality. Tindle’s work shows, as you probably already knew, that your beliefs and perceptions about yourself and the world impact your health.

Many of us harbour negative beliefs concerning our own abilities. By impinging on our confidence and self-worth, these beliefs can not only limit our age span, but also our productivity in and out of work and the success of our relationships.

Our Expanding Your Horizons workshop will make you aware of your personal limiting beliefs and how these impact on the actions and decisions you make every day. We will also introduce you to two belief loops (one positive and one negative), so you can understand how to get from one to the other, and focus on techniques to help you conquer these negative beliefs and replace them with more positive equivalents.

Change the invisible pessimistic workings of your mind and watch how positive changes to the more visible elements of your life follow.

From The Outside In: Fostering A Positive Self-Image

Since research has confirmed that 90% of British women feel body-image anxiety and a recent study from the University of Florida has found men are increasingly falling prey to the same issues, there is no time like the present to ensure that you and those close to you start working From the Outside In.

We are all familiar with evaluating ourselves based on what we look like; with our body anxieties distorting the way we think and feel. It now appears from psychologists Galinsky & Adam’s research that the clothes we wear also are impinging on our psychological processes.

In our From the Outside In workshop you will discover the main factors that drag your self-image down whilst learning to recognise the personal excuses you use that keep you from making any changes. By envisaging the benefits that tackling these factors brings, you will be able to commit to actions that will cause you to become more confident, happy and successful.

With the body image and clothing obsessed media of today it’s not surprising that so many of us feel self-conscious. Stand strong and proud to be in your own skin, donned with new confidence and working From The Outside In.

Giving Yourself Away: Translating Body Language

The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn’t said.
Peter F. Drucker

  • Ever wonder, why someone has an unexpected reaction to what you have said to them?
  • Why we make quick (often accurate) first impressions of people before we have even spoken with them?
  • Why laughing can make the tough times seem just that little bit better?

It’s all down to body language.

Body language reveals the true meaning and feeling hidden behind the words people actually say. It is constantly being exchanged and interpreted between us largely on an unconscious level.

In this workshop you will learn to read other people’s body language, develop and refine the messages you send with your own, improve your understanding of what your body is trying to tell you and identify you own personal body language attributes.

Armed with these new tools, life will suddenly make more sense and you’ll feel more at home in your own skin.

So come on, let’s learn the silent language together! Discover what your body language says about you and how to read other peoples to reveal what they are not saying.

Expand Your Mind: The Advantages of Abandoning Assumptions

Biernat, Manis and Nelson’s study, published in Attitudes and Social Cognition, showed that even when viewing photographs with a reference point, like a doorway, participants overestimated the heights of men and underestimated those of women.

We have a tendency to assume certain beliefs we hold are true, even when facts to the contrary are staring us in the face. In this way we make assumptions about our own abilities, about the way a partner or friend is thinking, about what our boss wants us to do and on and on.

Expand Your Mind workshop will make you aware of your subconscious assumptions and their disadvantages and inspire in you a shift in thinking. From now on you’ll notice just how much of your thinking is assumptions – and what to do about it.

Expand Your Mind and, discover The Advantages of Abandoning Assumptions.

Getting Out of the Box: Creative Thinking Skills

Creativity involves the breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way.
Edward de Bono

  • Suffering from a creative block?
  • Consider yourself too boring to be creative?
  • Feeling uninspired?

A recent study being conducted by the American Management Association asked leading CEOs what it would take to succeed in the 21st century. The majority answered, ‘Creativity and Innovation.’ They may have been referring to organisations, but the same answer could easily apply to individuals.

A common misconception is that creativity is a rare gift reserved for those in the arts, but you can bring creativity to running a business, raising a family, awakening a relationship and to every single thing you do for yourself.

  1. Getting Out Of The Box you will discover and use seven creative skills, which will help you to unlock your innovative side. These new techniques will inspire you to channel this creativity into situations you may have previously assumed to have no place for it.

Being creative will bring a new focus to your life, challenging your previous patterns of thinking so that you view problems and make decisions from a different angle. You’ll also become aware of the assumptions you’re making that can cause creative blocks.

Start looking at things in a different way; Getting Out Of The Box is one of the keys to achieving success.

Key Steps: Powerful Problem Solving

‘The Einstellung effect’ is a barrier to successful problem solving constructed by Gestalt psychologists. It describes the development of a mechanised state of mind, whereby one attempts to solve problems in a specific manner by applying a strategy that has previously worked, even though a ‘better’ or more appropriate method of solving this problem exists.

Although our experiences are a valuable source of learning they can hinder our problem solving ability by narrowing our focus and preventing us from taking a fresh perspective.

This workshop will introduce you to the LIFE model - a powerful problem solving methodology.

So, take the Key Steps and discover exciting new solutions and an expanse of resources available to wipe out your problems leaving you with both time and energy to spare.

Life Circles: Mapping The Mind

Neuroscience has proved that most of our decisions, actions, emotions and behaviour depend on 95% of brain activity that is beyond our conscious awareness. What this means is that if we mainly operate through our habitual unconscious mind, without consciously checking the results we can end up ‘directing’ our lives in exactly the direction we don’t want to be going.

Life Circles is about tapping into your unconscious and using your intuition to plan your ideal future.

By simply drawing circles to map out the elements of your life that are most important to you, you will be able to see clearly how each of these elements is interconnected and how each affects you in different ways. This deceptively simple workshop will give you the clarity you require to create your ideal future.

So pick up a pen to transform both your unconscious and conscious thoughts into a visual reality that you can act on.

Get Going: The rules of motivation

  • Ever failed to complete your New Year’s Resolution?
  • Given up half-way through that project you wanted to complete?
  • Lost touch with a friend?

We are born motivated – we teach ourselves to walk, talk, we naturally learn and want to advance forward. It’s only as time goes on that fear, doubt, laziness etc creep in and they can be hard to get rid of. Sometimes we turn to others for help and support, only to find that they have different motivational tools from us and the conversation leaves us even more deflated.

Motivation is extremely complex and, although we each have unique tools that keep us motivated, many of us are unaware of what our personal motivational tools are. This means we don’t put those tools in place before we start doing something and so give up half-way through.  You may think that you lack motivational ability, but it might have simply been that you’re using the ‘wrong’ tools to keep you going. Tools that may work for someone else but not for you.

Motivation is one of the most valuable and powerful mind frames, it gives you the incentive to pursue and achieve, it incites activity, and without it no one would ever get anything done. Our Get Going workshop will teach you how to find the innate motivational tools that work for you and show you how you can use these tools to inspire yourself.

Each of us know our motivational toolkit intuitively, but once you have found it consciously, you’ll be able to access it whenever you want. Come along and learn, not only how different we all are, but what gets you going.

Finding Your Box of Gifts: Discovering Your Talents

  • Not sure what it is that makes you special?
  • Lost your love of life?
  • Wondering what your talents are?

Bupa recently surveyed 2,000 Brits to find that half of workers feel unfulfilled in their work and frustrated at how little money they earn, with a third being unhappy in general.

In their research, Psychologists Harter, Schmidt & Hayes found that one key way of increasing engagement at work is to focus on your strengths. Similarly, economist Doug Allen emphasises how it is easy to be successful at something you like. What this points to is that you need to Find Your Box Of Gifts.

Finding Your Box of Gifts workshop will help you discover your hidden talents through analysing what your passions are and were. That way you can incorporate any loved and lost talents into your current life, possibly applying them to your current job, discovering a new career avenue or even adopting a new hobby.

So come and discover your talents this week and prepare to reach your full potential.

What About Me?: Saying Yes to Saying No

A ‘no’ uttered from the deepest conviction is better than a ‘yes’ merely uttered to please, or worse, to avoid trouble.
Gandhi.

  • Endlessly juggling the demands of your work and family, friends and colleagues?
  • Being pulled in too many directions at once?
  • Forgotten when you last did something that was just for you?

If so, you’re probably suffering from the common inability of not being able to say ‘no’.

Research from psychologist William Fleeson shows that we can be happier simply by being more assertive and voicing our opinion. This workshop will help you realise why Fleeson got these results and how you too can be happier.

As Life Clubs is totally tailor made, What About Me? is all about finding when it is appropriate for you to say ‘no’ in your life. You’ll discover who or what and which thoughts are draining all your energy and when to spend more time on yourself. We will also introduce you to flexible and practical saying ‘no’ techniques that you can use day after day.

Saying yes to saying no will leave you feel refreshed, less stressed and more clear headed - just like Gandhi.

What’s Important?: The Power of Focusing

Why more is less

  • Are you doing too much at once?
  • Having trouble prioritising?
  • Too many options stopping you from making decisions?

Columbia Professor Sheena Iyengar found that too many options leave people unable to make forward-moving decisions. She carried out interesting research on consumers in a supermarket who were offered a free tasting of 6 or 24 different varieties of jams. When there were only 6 options, 40% of consumers stopped to taste and 30% bought some jam, contrastingly, when there were 24 options 60% of the customers stopped to taste, but only 3% bought some.

We find options appealing, but they leave us confused and incapable of making a decision.

Most days we can feel overwhelmed by an abundance of choice. And yet we’re faced with a belief that we should be able to make multiple choices almost simultaneously. In truth, this leaves our brain over stressed and exhausted pressured into constantly having to compare and contrast.

Most of us work or function best when we focus on one thing at a time. What’s Important? is all about understanding what it is that you want and prioritizing particular areas of your life. Through this you will find yourself both more efficient and successful.

Stop drowning in options and prepare to achieve as you find out What’s Important.

Visual Problem Solving: The Magic of Metaphors

  • Feeling stuck?
  • Got a problem you just can't solve?
  • Feel like you've got zero creativity?

Metaphors not only enable the reflection and communication of complex topics they also affect further perception, interpretation of experience and possibly subsequent actions.
Psychologists Dedre Gentner & Donald Gentner

Without even noticing, we use metaphors every 25 seconds and have been using them since childhood to describe our feelings. They give us a unique perspective into how we think, a window into the way we see the world and they can influence the way we view our thoughts and problems (notice the amount of metaphors in that paragraph alone).

This workshop is about using metaphoric imagery as a creative approach to problem solving. Using a metaphor to form a visual representation of your feelings towards a personal problem will help you gain the distance you require to view it from a whole new perspective. This new perspective will prevent your worries from appearing so overwhelming, whilst spurring fresh ideas and solutions.

Tap into the fun of creating a metaphorical perspective of your emotions and watch your life change - start Visual Problem Solving today.
